AlabamaAmendment 1

Amendment 1

Alabama · November 3, 2026

Add discharging a firearm in an occupied dwelling or other occupied space and any solicitation, attempt, or conspiracy to commit murder to the list of crimes for which a judge may deny bail

A yes vote means Judges will be allowed to deny bail for people accused of shooting firearms in occupied buildings or planning/attempting murder.
A no vote means These two crimes will not be added to the list of offenses where judges can deny bail.
Simple explanation
Right now, judges have certain tools they can use to keep dangerous people in jail before trial, like for serious violent crimes. This measure adds two more situations to that list: shooting a gun inside a building where people are present, and planning or attempting to kill someone. It's basically saying judges should have the option to hold people without bail in these specific cases.
