Prohibit Post-Conviction Bail for Individuals Convicted of Assault Against Minors Amendment
Louisiana · November 3, 2026
What this measure does
Prohibit post-conviction bail for a defendant who is convicted of an aggravated offense against a victim who is a minor
A yes vote means
People convicted of serious crimes against children would have to stay in jail after conviction instead of getting released while their case goes through appeals.
A no vote means
The current rules stay the same, so judges can still decide whether to release someone convicted of a serious crime against a child while their case continues.
Simple explanation
Right now, if someone's convicted of seriously hurting a kid, they can ask a judge to let them out of jail while they wait for their appeals or sentencing. This measure would say no to that, period. Once you're convicted of that crime, you stay locked up.
